Kasprak tallies first goal of her career in Pioneers' 1-1 tie with Edgewood

GRINNELL, Iowa – Regan Kasprak '19 scored the first goal of her career while helping the Grinnell College women's soccer team to a 1-all tie with Edgewood College in the season opener for both teams Friday at Springer Field.

Kasprak, who played keeper the last two seasons, scored in the 32nd minute on an assist by Simona Bambi '20. On the play, the ball was delivered into the box from the left side and, after a scramble, Bambi gained possession and sent it to Kasprak, who scored from the right side from about 7 yards out.

Grinnell had a handful of other chances to score in the first half, outshooting the visitors 12-3 in that span. Grinnell held a 9-6 shots edge in the second period, but Edgewood got a goal in the 52nd minute and send the contest into overtime. The score remained 1-1 through both 10-minute extra periods.

Grinnell won the shots battle 22-12, with Bambi and Valencia Alvarez '20 taking five shots each, Esmé Kayim-Yanko '21 three and Elyse Salpekar '19 and Jordan Maddaus '19 two apiece.
