GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's women's soccer team played Coe College even up on the shots chart on a muggy Saturday afternoon, but the Kohawks managed to win the battle of the scoreboard by posting a 2-0 victory at Springer Field.
Both teams had 11 shots in the game, each taking four in the opening half and seven in the second. After Coe scored in the 12th minute, the Pioneers had some chances to get on the board after that but the contest remained 1-0 at halftime.
The Kohawks, 1-0 on the year, added an insurance goal in the 57th minute.
Valencia Alvarez '20 fired off four shots for Grinnell,
Simona Bambi '20 had three and
Juliet Torres '19 a pair. Keeper
Elizabeth Hunt '21 played another solid game, coming up with five saves.
The Pioneers, 0-1-1 on the season, host their Alumnae Game at noon Sunday.
