DE PERE, Wis. –
Ryan Slager '19, who has made a huge dent in the Grinnell College football record book over the years, did so again Saturday as he shattered the program mark for unassisted tackles in a career.
Slager recorded 17 solo stops in a 91-0 loss at St. Norbert College, giving him 219 for his career. That betters the old record of 207 by
David Ternes. Slager also moved his career tackle record to 496, fifth all-time at the NCAA Division III level and just one shy of fourth place.
Slager had 18 total tackles Saturday, as well as a forced fumble and fumble recovery. He is now second in career fumble recoveries with seven and fourth in forced fumbles with five.
Jeff Keele '19 added seven tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss, while
Hassan Thompson '19 tallied five tackles.
Anthony Johnson '22 added 0.5 tackles for loss, Alex Maloney '21 a forced fumble and
Cole Riley '19 a fumble recovery.
Offensively,
Daniel Carter '22 rushed for 22 yards and
Jake Kaplinski '22 completed five aerials for 43 yards.
David Taylor '20 had four catches for 24 yards and
Max Hill '20 added three catches for 45 yards.
Taylor now ranks 17th at Grinnell in all-time reception yards with 1,163 and 18th in receptions with 85. Hill is ninth in kick returns with 43 and 10th in kick return yardage with 733.
St. Norbert is now 2-1, while the Pioneers are 1-2. Grinnell will look to get back into the win column next Saturday with a home contest against Ripon College. Action at Rosenbloom Field kicks off at 1 p.m.
