GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College women's soccer team spread the wealth as it continued its Saturday shutout streak with a 5-0 blanking of Beloit College.
After a lightning delay of an hour, the Pioneers came out on fire and had four different players score and got a fifth tally via an own goal. Grinnell had 23 players see action while stretching its shutout streak on Saturdays to five matches. In those five contests, the Pioneers have outscored their foes 16-0 and held a 97-23 edge in shots.
Defensively Grinnell was on top of its game, posting its fifth shutout of the season as
Elizabeth Hunt '21 and
Hannah Malicky '22 split time at keeper, each playing a half.
Grinnell, tied for first in the Midwest Conference at 2-0-1 while owning a 5-4-2 overall mark, got to work immediately as
Alyssa Radakovich '21 found the back of the net in the sixth minute. A shot by
Esmé Kayim-Yanko '21 was blocked by Beloit's keeper, and Radakovich got the rebound and booted the ball off the keeper's leg and into the net. It was Radakovich's fourth goal of the season.
Kayim-Yanko got into the scoring action seven minutes later with her team-high fifth goal on an assist from Radakovich. On the play, Radakovich passed to Kayim-Yanko on the left side of the box, and the latter sent it into the net to make it 2-0.
Grinnell scored once more in the half, with
Valencia Alvarez '20 getting a goal in the 44th minute after hitting an amazing strike to the left pocket of the goal from across the field. It was her third score of the season.
The Pioneers made it 4-0 in the 60th minute on an own goal into the left bottom part of the net, and
Crys Moosman's '21 second goal of the season came on a beautiful breakaway from the right lane in the 82nd minute.
Grinnell outshot the Buccaneers 19-1 and held an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.
Simo Bambi '20 had four of Grinnell's shots, including three on goal. Kayim-Yanko and Moosman added three shots each, while Radanovich, Alvarez and
Quinn Berleman-Paul '21 had two apiece.
With the loss, Beloit dipped to 0-3 in the MWC and 1-9 overall.
Grinnell has a huge MWC matchup against Knox College next Saturday in Galesburg, Ill.
