RIPON, Wis. – Playing as a split squad, Grinnell College's men's tennis team extended a lengthy streak at Ripon College and narrowly lost a 5-4 decision to Augustana College in a battle of regionally-ranked squads.

At Ripon, the Pioneers blanked the Red Hawks 9-0 to open Midwest Conference play. The win stretched Grinnell's victory streak in MWC play to 90 matches and 146 matches against league foes overall, dating back to 2003.

Grinnell posted two shutouts on the day, as
Henry Johnson '20 earned a 6-0, 6-0 decision at No. 2 singles and teamed with
Ishaan Tibrewal '21 to win 8-0 at No. 1 doubles.

Other singles winners for Grinnell were Tibrewal at No. 1 (6-2, 6-1),
Lucas LeDoux '19 at No. 3 (6-1, 6-0),
Nick Alex '20 at No. 4 (6-2, 6-2),
Arlo Detmer '20 at No. 5 (6-1, 6-1) and
Pranjal Drall '20 at No. 6 (6-1, 6-2). Alex and LeDoux won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles and
Hunter Antonisse '19 teamed with
Edward Lopatto '20 to win 8-6 at No. 3.

The Grinnell-Augustana match was as good as advertised, as the Pioneers took a No. 39 national ranking and No. 10 regional ranking into the contest. The Vikings are ranked 11th regionally.

Grinnell shot out to a 2-1 lead in doubles, with winning duos the No. 2 unit of
Sam Stickels '19 and
Michael Conlin-Brandenburg '21 (8-4) and
Zach Lane '19 and
George Kaslow '21 at No. 3 (8-7). Stickels moved up to 11th on Grinnell's career doubles wins list with 72.

Conlin-Brandenburg was a double winner for Grinnell, also posting a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles.
Jack Lunn '20 won a marathon at No. 6 singles, rallying for a 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory.

The Pioneers, 14-4 on the season, are at Lake Forest College in MWC play Sunday.
