GRINNELL, Iowa - One thing is for certain - the 2018-19 Grinnell College men's tennis team will be entering postseason play with plenty of momentum on its side.
Grinnell won for the 14th time in its last 15 outings Friday, sailing past the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in a battle of regionally-ranked teams at 10th Avenue Courts. Grinnell, ranked 12th in the Central Region, swept doubles play and then cruised to a 7-2 win over the 16th-ranked Blugolds.
Grinnell improved to 23-4, with that win total ranking sixth in program history. UW-Eau Claire fell to 13-8.
Double winners on the day for Grinnell were
Bowen Mince '22 and
Michael Conlin-Brandenburg '21. Mince teamed with
Ben Cobin '20 to win 8-3 at the top doubles spot, while Conin-Brandenburg and
Sam Stickels '19 posted an 8-5 decision at No. 2.
Zach Lane '19 and
George Kaslow '21 completed the doubles sweep with an 8-7 decision at No. 3.
Mince gutted out a 5-7, 6-2, 10-7 marathon win at the top singles spot and Conlin-Brandenburg breezed to a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 4.
Jack Lunn '20 came through with a 6-4, 4-6, 11-9 victory at the No. 5 spot and
Ishaan Tibrewal '21 added a 6-2, 6-3 decision at No. 6.
Grinnell jumps into postseason play next Friday with a Midwest Conference Team Tournament semifinal match against Cornell College in Madison, Wis.
