GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College men's tennis team started the day with another league shutout, and finished it with a thrilling win against another regionally-ranked team.

The Pioneers, ranked 39th in the nation and 10th in the Central Region, posted their fourth Midwest Conference shutout in as many tries Sunday with a 9-0 blanking of Lawrence University. The win sent Grinnell's winning streak in league play to 93 matches and 149 against MWC foes overall, dating back to 2003. Grinnell followed that with a 6-3 nail-biter win over Luther College, ranked 15th in the region.

In the Lawrence win, Grinnell opened with doubles decisions by the teams of
Ben Cobin '20-

Sam Stickels '19-
Michael Conlin-Brandenburg '21 (8-0) and
Zach Lane '19-
George Kaslow '21 (8-2). Singles winners, in order, were Lane (6-0, 6-0), Conlin-Brandenburg (6-2, 6-1),
Jack Lunn '20 (6-0, 6-1),
Ishaan Tibrewal '21 (6-0, 6-0), Kaslow (6-1, 6-1) and
Henry Johnson '20 (6-0, 6-0).

The Pioneers broke out to a 2-1 lead against Luther, winning at the Nos. 2 and 3 doubles spots with the duos of Stickels-Conlin-Brandenburg (8-2) and Lane-Kaslow (8-6). Cobin gave Grinnell a 3-1 lead with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles. After Luther tied it, Grinnell clinched the victory with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 win by Stickels at No. 3 and 6-0, 6-0 win by Lunn at No. 6. Conlin-Brandenburg added a 6-2, 6-0 decision at No. 5 for good measure.

During the day, Cobin moved up to 18th on Grinnell's career singles wins list with 58 and 20th in doubles victories with 60. Stickels now ranks 21st in singles wins with 54.

Grinnell, 18-4 on the season and 4-0 in the MWC, plays at Monmouth College and Illinois College on Saturday.
