DUBUQUE, Iowa – Grinnell College's women's soccer team went toe-to-toe with the University of Dubuque for nearly all of Friday's season opener for both squads.
But the host Spartans scored in the 58th minute on an own goal by Grinnell and added some insurance in the 70th minute for a 2-0 win.
The first half was a defensive tussle, with Grinnell getting off four shots and the Spartans just eight. Dubuque ended up with a 20-8 edge in that department.

Elizabeth Hunt '21 was strong in net, recording eight saves in the game.
Grinnell hosts its annual alumnae contest Sunday at Springer Field, starting at 1 p.m. The Pioneers travel to Cedar Rapids next Thursday to face Coe College at 7 p.m.
