Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Ted Schultz

Grinnell comes up just shy in 1-0 setback at Coe

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Grinnell and Coe College nearly played to a deadlock in Thursday's non-conference women's soccer game.

The only difference separating the teams when the smoke settled was a goal by the Kohawks in the sixth minute that held up for a 1-0 win.

Both teams fired off seven shots in the game, with Grinnell holding a 2-1 edge in that department in the first half and Coe a 6-5 lead in the final 45 minutes. Six of Coe's shots were on goal and five of Grinnell's.

Valencia Alvarez '20 had three of Grinnell's shots, with two being on goal. Taking one shot each was Alyssa Radakovich '21, Cally Carr '21,  Esmé Kayim-Yanko '21 and Lauren Edwards '20.

The Pioneers' Elinor Arneson '23 had an amazing performance in her collegiate debut at keeper, turning away five shots while giving up just one goal over 90 minutes of play.

Coe improved to 3-0 with the win, while Grinnell is 0-2. The Pioneers play their first home game of the 2019 campaign Saturday when Buena Vista University visits Springer Field for a 1 p.m. test.
