Pioneer women's soccer team comes up with another dominating Saturday performance

MANKATO, Minn. - Saturdays seem to agree quite well with the Grinnell College women's soccer team.

Exactly one week after drilling Buena Vista University 7-0, the Pioneers kept up their Saturday shutout string with a 3-0 blanking of Bethany Lutheran College on the latter's pitch. In those two Saturday contests, Grinnell has outshot its foes 60-4.

Esmé Kayim-Yanko '21 scored twice and Valencia Alvarez '20 added another score for the Pioneers, who improved to 2-3 on the season. Grinnell dominated the game, outshooting Bethany Lutheran 22-4 while owning a 13-0 edge in shots on goal and 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.

On the other end of the field, Elizabeth Hunt '21 recorded a shutout as Grinnell's keeper. It was her first shutout of the season and fourth of her career.

Kayim-Yanko scored what proved to be the game winner just six minutes in when she sent a shot into the lower left side of the net. The score remained 1-0 through halftime before Kayim-Yanko scored again in the 55th minute with a top shelf goal.

Alvarez completed the scoring in the 73rd minute when she scored in the lower right corner past the diving keeper. Crys Moosman '21 was credited with the assist.

Kayim-Yanko has two goals this season and three in her career, while Alvarez has one this season and two for her career.

Simo Bambi '20 had five of Grinnell's shots, Alvarez and Kayim-Yanko took four each, Moosman added three and Halle Remash '20 took two.

Grinnell entertains Simpson College at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Springer Field. Bethany Lutheran fell to 3-2.
