MADISON, Wis. - The Saturday Shutout Streak continues for the Grinnell College women's soccer team.
The Pioneers held an opponent scoreless for the third time in three consecutive Saturdays with a 1-0 victory at Edgewood College. In that span, Grinnell has outscored its foes 11-0 while holding a 66-11 edge in shots.
Grinnell, which has won twice and tied once in its last three outings, also played its second match in a row that was delayed by lightning. The Pioneers are now 3-3-1 on the season, while Edgewood dipped to 2-5-1.
The contest was scoreless for 20 minutes before
Alyssa Radakovich '21 scored the lone goal on an assist from
Anna Engelhardt '21. On the play, Engelhardt stole the ball on the right side of the field and sent a pass into Radakovich right outside the box. Radakovich entered the box and approached the keeper, faked her out and sent a soft-touch shot into the bottom left portion of the net.
It was Radakovich's second goal of the season and fifth of her career, while Engelhardt got her first career assist.
Elizabeth Hunt '21 had another fantastic outing as Grinnell's keeper, posting four saves in getting her second shutout of the season and fifth of her career. She now ranks eighth at Grinnell in career shutouts as well as saves with 128, and sixth in wins with 15.
Grinnell, which outshot Edgewood 4-1 in the first half, finished with six shots. Engelhardt had two of those, while Radakovich,
Valencia Alvarez '20,
Esmé Kayim-Yanko '21 and
Samantha Reid '23 added one apiece.
Grinnell is right back at it Sunday, entertaining Nebraska Wesleyan University at Springer Field. Kickoff is at 4:30 p.m.
