GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's women's soccer team hung with once-beaten Nebraska Wesleyan University and had some chances, but in the end the Prairie Wolves came away with a 2-0 victory at Springer Field Sunday.
On a day that started sunny and evolved into a steady rain, Grinnell held the visitors scoreless until the 29th minute. The Pioneers were still within 1-0 until the 70th minute when Nebraska Wesleyan was awarded, and converted, a penalty kick.
The Pioneers kept at it, though, and had several attempts near the goal in the waning minutes before time ran out.
Celeste Kaspar '21 had two of Grinnell's seven shots, including one on goal. Others with shots on goal were
Simo Bambi '20,
Alyssa Radakovich '21 and
Quinn Berleman-Paul '21.
Crys Moosman '21 and
Anna Engelhardt '21 also had shots.
Elizabeth Hunt '21 worked another solid game at keeper for Grinnell, coming up with six saves on the day.
Grinnell, 3-4-1, opens Midwest Conference play Saturday at Lake Forest College. Kickoff is at 11 a.m. Nebraska Wesleyan improved to 7-1 with the win.
