LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Grinnell College's men's soccer battled back into contention in the second half of its Midwest Conference opener against Lake Forest College Saturday.
But the host Foresters countered with a goal of their own to sneak away with a 2-1 victory. Lake Forest, 3-5-1 overall, got out to a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 24th minute.
But then it was the Pioneers' turn, as
Mikoto Kobayashi '20 converted a goal in the 61st minute on an assist by
Carlos Piedrasanta '20 and
Ray Goedeker 22. The goal, Kobayashi's third of the season, is tied for the team lead.
However, the hosts added a goal in the 76th minute and made it stick for the win.
The 4-5 Pioneers managed four shots in the game, with
Thomas Pflipsen '20,
Jasper Yang '21 and Naik joining Kobayashi in that department.
Jared Cloutier '20 worked the entire game at keeper for Grinnell.
The Pioneers are back at it again Sunday when they play Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis. Kickoff is at 1:30 p.m.
