Carissa Tigges named head athletic trainer at Grinnell College

GRINNELL, Iowa – Carissa Tigges, who joined the Grinnell College athletic training staff in 2015, has been promoted to head athletic trainer at the College.

Tigges received her bachelor's degree in athletic training from Trinity International University and her master's degree in exercise physiology from Eastern Michigan University.

She began her professional career in 2012 at the Beaumont Health System in outpatient physical therapy, with an outreach to Royal Oak High School. From 2013-2015 she was an athletic trainer and instructor in the Athletic Training Education Program at Trinity International University.

Tigges is certified through the Athletic Trainer Board of Certification and licensed through the Iowa Department of Public Health. She has certifications in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Graston Technique, Functional Movement Taping and as a Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED Instructor.

"We are delighted to welcome Carissa into her new role of head athletic trainer," said Andy Hamilton, the College's Director of Athletics and Recreation. "Having worked as an assistant trainer at Grinnell gives Carissa both insight into Grinnell's athletic department, student-athletes and collaboration with many important groups on campus. During her interview, Carissa exhibited deep understanding of student-athlete needs, which under her leadership will be a hallmark of our operations. We are excited to see her blend past experiences and assemble new pathways in order to best support our 20-sport program."

"I'm incredibly honored to have the opportunity to continue at Grinnell and work with our health care and performance team to ensure the health and safety of our student-athletes and support their overall success and experience," said Tigges. "I'd like to thank Andy Hamilton, (committee chair) Kirsten Koester and the rest of the search committee for their dedication to finding the right person to move Grinnell Sports Performance forward."
