Grinnell netters improve to 3-0 ln league play as Kuhn reaches 1,500-kill milestone

BELOIT, Wis. - Grinnell College's four-set volleyball victory at Beloit College proved to be historic on a few fronts.

The 25-21, 22-25, 25-17, 25-16 victory over the Buccaneers gave Grinnell a 3-0 mark in Midwest Conference play not only for the second season in a row, but the second time in program history.

Additionally, Kaylin Kuhn '22 became just the sixth player in MWC history and second ever at Grinnell to reach the 1,500-kill plateau. Her 18-kill performance gave her 1,508 for her career.

Grinnell (12-8, 3-0 MWC) also got double-digit kills from Rachel Woock '23, who had 10 while hitting .333. Olivia Jensen '22 and Jenna Keller '24 each had nine kills, with Jensen hitting .600 for the match.

Emily Brewer '24 and Julianna Roth '23 had 37 and 12 assists, respectively. Grinnell had 15 aces as a team, the seventh-most in program history for a four-set match. Brewer had four aces and Payton Lowrey '22 and Kuhn had three apiece.

Anna Killin '23 and Brewer had two blocks apiece, while double-digit digs were compiled by Lowrey (15), Woock (14) and Kuhn (13).

Grinnell bolted out to a 9-4 lead in the opening set thanks to three-point service runs by Brewer and Kuhn, and never looked back on their way to the win.

An 8-2 run midway through the second set gave Beloit (4-8, 0-3 MWC) the win to tie the match at one set apiece. Grinnell led the third set 15-12 but opened things up with a 9-1 run. Woock had two aces in that span and Jensen and Kuhn two kills apiece as Grinnell won comfortably.

Beloit grabbed an 11-9 lead in the fourth set, but then it was all Grinnell as the Pioneers went on a 7-1 run with Jensen and Woock each getting two kills to spark the rally. Grinnell continued to cruise and collect the win, its fourth in a row.

The Pioneers have a big non-conference test Saturday with a match at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, the 10th-ranked team in the nation.
