Grinnell women's soccer team owns both ends of the pitch in Senior Day shutout of Ripon

GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College women's soccer team celebrated Senior Day in a perfect way Saturday, shutting out Ripon College 4-0 at Springer Field.

Grinnell did it both offensively and defensively in snapping a seven-match winless streak. On the defensive end, the hosts held Ripon without a shot, marking the first time Grinnell has done that to an opponent since a Sept. 7, 2019, game against Buena Vista University.

Offensively, the Pioneers tallied season-highs of 35 shots and 20 corner kicks. The shot total is the most for Grinnell since a Nov. 2, 2019, game against Illinois College.

In all, 26 players saw action for Grinnell, which improved to 3-11-2 overall and 2-3-2 in the Midwest Conference. Ripon fell to 0-14-1 in all contests and 0-7 in the league.

Jane March '24 had two goals for Grinnell, her first two of the season, while Francesca Dalla Betta '22 was credited with two assists.

Alyssa Radakovich '22 opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with her first goal of the season on an assist by Dalla Betta, who fed the ball to Radakovich who promptly whipped it over the keeper's head and into the net.

Eleven minutes later, March scored when she headed in the ball from close range following a corner kick by Giada Bambi '25 from the left side.

Grinnell added to the lead early in the second half, when Ali Nadalsky '25 scored her team-high third goal of the year in the 48th minute as she carried the ball from midfield to near the goal and beat the keeper with a shot. Hope Nowak '22 had the assist on the one-touch pass.

Grinnell finished off the scoring in the 72nd minute when March took a pass from Dalla Betta and put it into the back of the net.

Hannah Malicky '22 played the entire contest at keeper for Grinnell and recorded her first career victory.

Crys Moosman '22 and Keiko Smith '25 each had four shots for Grinnell, while Radakovich, Anna Engelhardt '22, Carlie Duus '24 and Julia Sheehan-Klenk '23 added three apiece.

Grinnell closes out the 2021 regular season next Saturday at Lake Forest College. Action begins at 11 a.m.
