Grinnell men's soccer team continues hot streak while setting school record

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - Grinnell College's men's soccer team not only continued its late-season surge Sunday afternoon, but made a mark in the record book.

The Pioneers disposed of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, the seventh-ranked team in the region, 4-1 to win for the fifth time in its last six outings.

Additionally, Grinnell improved its season points total to 119 to establish a new school record, beating the mark of 117 set in 2019.

The Pioneers also moved their season assist total to 37 to tie the record set in 2019, and the team's 41 goals rank sixth in program history.

Grinnell improved to 9-7 on the season, the fourth-highest win total in school history.

The Pioneers grabbed a 1-0 halftime lead on a goal in the 36th minute by Henry Cladouhos '22, his third of the season. Ryota Matsunaga '24 had the assist.

The score remained the same until the Pioneers erupted with a flurry of three goals in seven minutes. The first of those came from Jasper Yang '22, his Midwest Conference-leading 19th of the season. That total ranks fourth in program history.

Davis Provost '23 added a goal in the 76th minute on assists by Dylan Maddux '25 and Ray Goedeker '22. It was the second goal of the year by Provost, while Goedeker notched his seventh assist which ranks seventh in program history.

UW-Eau Claire, which fell to 12-4 overall, got on the board a minute later before Goedeker connected for a goal one minute after that to account for the final score. The goal, assisted by Caleb Hoereth '24, was the third of the year for Goedeker.

Goedeker now ranks sixth in program history for career assists with 17, while Yang moved up to second in goals with 47 and points with 109. Yang's season point total of 44 is also second all-time.

Carter Benson '24, who recorded six saves, posted his ninth victory of the season at keeper. That win total is third-best in program history.
