For first time in program history, GC volleyball team moves to 5-0 in league play

RIPON, Wis. - For the first time in program history, Grinnell College's volleyball team is out to a 5-0 start in Midwest Conference play.

The Pioneers secured that fact Saturday afternoon when they rallied from a first-set loss to topple Ripon College in four sets to improve to 14-9 overall. Set scores, in favor of Grinnell, were 22-25, 25-20, 25-18 and 26-24.

Kaylin Kuhn '22 had 21 kills and an equal number of digs for Grinnell, while Rachel Woock '23 and Olivia Jensen '22 each had 10 kills. Jensen hit a whopping .357.

Julianna Roth '23 and Emily Brewer '24 had 41 and 11 assists, respectively. Wood served up two aces and added 17 digs. Payton Lowrey '22 also had 17 digs and Sophie Weber '25 tallied 15. Jensen contributed three block assists.

After losing the first set, Grinnell led the second just 20-19 before three kills from Jensen and one by Kuhn gave them some breathing room at 24-19. Later, a ball handling error by the hosts finished off the set win.

The third set was nip and tuck the whole way before the Pioneers pulled away. Grinnell trailed the fourth set 23-21 before reeling off three consecutive points with Jensen highlighting the run with a kill.

After Ripon tied it at 24-all, Jensen pounded down a kill and Ripon had an attack error to seal the win.

With the loss, Ripon fell to 0-4 in the MWC and 8-14 in all matches.

Grinnell steps out of league play Wednesday when Buena Vista University visits Darby Gymnasium. Match time is 7 p.m.
