Grinnell men finish pre-winter break slate on resounding note with victory over Principia

ELSAH, Ill. - The Grinnell College men's basketball team entered winter break on a resounding note Saturday afternoon, jumping to an early lead against Principia College and rolling to a 112-89 victory.
 
Grinnell scored 21 of the game's first 27 points on its way to staying unbeaten against Principia in the six-game series between the teams.
 
Adam Phillips '23 scorched the nets for a career-high 21 points by hitting 7-of-12 tries from 3-point range. Patrick Simms '22 added 18 points, Dean Mazlish '23 had a career-best 14 and Will Bebee '22 put in 12.
 
Bebee finished with a double-double, also coming up with a career-best 13 boards along with two blocks. Tommy Smith '22 contributed 10 rebounds and Mitch Priest '25 a carer-high four assists.
 
Grinnell got two steals from Simms, Bebee, Will Lasater '25 and Jackson Leone '25. The steal totals were career-highs for Lasater and Leone.
 
The teams were tied 6-all before the Pioneers pulled away with a 15-point run. Priest began things with a 3-pointer before Phillips went wild with three consecutive treys. Lasater added a layup and Tate McLean '23 a free throw to make it a 21-6 lead. The Pioneers led 56-42 at intermission and never looked back on their way to victory. 
 
Grinnell improved to 6-5 with the win and Principia dipped to 3-4.

Grinnell is off until Jan. 4 when it plays at Ripon College. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
