GRINNELL, Iowa - Two days after being recognized as the Midwest Conference Pitcher of the Week, Grinnell College baseball player
Brock Weirather '21 has earned national recognition.
Weirather, from Polk City, Fla. (All Saints Academy), was tabbed the NCAA Division III Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) after firing a perfect game against Knox College Sunday. The gem was just the third perfect game at the NCAA Division III level this season, and 18th since 2007. He needed just 83 pitches to complete the 13-0, seven-inning victory. He struck out 14 batters, the fifth-highest total in Grinnell history, and the perfect game was just the second ever at Grinnell.
Weirather helped himself at the plate, too, as Grinnell won all four games against Knox. He hit .563 in that span, going 9-of-16 with a homer, triple, double, eight RBIs, seven runs scored and .938 slugging percentage.
The NCBWAÂ Hitter of the Week was SUNY-Cortland's Daniel Coleman and the Rookie of the Week award went to James Ward Jr. of St. John Fisher College.
