Grinnell men's tennis team looks to extend MWC title run on Friday

GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College men's tennis team has dominated Midwest Conference competition for nearly two decades.
 
The Pioneers, who have won 16 league championships in a row, go for No. 17 Friday when they face Lake Forest College at 12:30 p.m. in Monmouth, Ill. The winner not only earns the MWC title, but the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
 
Grinnell breezed through MWC South Division competition this season, posting a perfect 8-0 mark with shutouts in all eight wins. The Pioneers have posted 13 shutouts in a row against MWC foes, dating back to 2019, and have won 163 consecutive matches in a row against league foes since the 2002-03 season.
 
Leading the charge for Grinnell in singles play are Bowen Mince '22 (8-0 record), Michael Conlin-Brandenburg '21 (4-0), Leo Esztergomi '24 (3-0), Jonah Gilmore '24 (7-0), Paul Elghouayel '24 (8-0), Henry Bridgers '24 (8-0), Ishaan Tibrewal '21 (5-0), Simon Kennel '23 (6-0) and Charles Yung '24 (3-0).
 
Grinnell has used 11 doubles combinations this season, the most prevalent being Esztergomi-Mince (5-0), Conlin-Brandenburg-Gilmore (4-0) and Bridgers-Tibrewal (4-0).
