GRINNELL, Iowa – A pair of fierce comebacks propelled the Grinnell College volleyball team to a three-set victory over Dominican University in the opening match of the Pioneers' own tournament Friday.

The Pioneers, who were able to mix and match different players into all three matches, went 1-2 on the day with losses to 17th-ranked Millikin University and the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Grinnell toppled Dominican 25-20, 25-20, 25-11 to open the day. The Pioneers dug themselves in holes of 5-1 and 8-5 in the first set before coming back and taking their first lead at 12-11 on an attack error by the visitors.

Dominican then scored five unanswered points before Grinnell answered again with an eight-point run that included a kill by Kaylin Kuhn '22 and ace from Payton Lowrey '22. The Pioneers never trailed again.
