Grinnell women's soccer team falls just short against Saint Mary's

GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College's women's soccer team played even with Saint Mary's University Wednesday at Springer Field, but the Cardinals eked out two goals in the opening half to come away with a 2-0 non-conference victory.

Saint Mary's only won the shots battle 11-10, but Grinnell owned the edge in the second half by a 7-4 margin. Both teams had three corner kicks apiece.

Saint Mary's (8-5-2) broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the 17th minute and added another in the 35th minute. Grinnell (7-2-4) had a few opportunities in the second half, but just fell short of scoring each time.

Maddie Beltramo '25, Reese Komsthoeft '25 and Tali Berk '24 each had two shots for Grinnell, while Keiko Smith '25, Jill Paladino '23, Jane March '24 and Giada Bambi '25 added one apiece. Grinnell keeper Elinor Arneson '23 recorded four saves.

The Pioneers have a big matchup Saturday at Ripon College, as a win would keep them in contention to potentially host the Midwest Conference Tournament. Kickoff is 1:30 p.m.
