Grinnell netters sweep away Eureka in 3 sets

EUREKA, Ill. - Grinnell College's volleyball team continued its hot streak Wednesday, sweeping Eureka College in three sets for its seventh win in the last eight outings.

Grinnell, which won by scores of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-17, improved to 16-6 while Eureka dipped to 6-16.

The Pioneers hit a blistering .315 on the night. Hayley Taka '26 had eight kills, Ella O'Neill '25 added six kills and hit an amazing .857 and Malaina Miles '24 also had six kills while hitting .455. O'Neill's efficiency would rank second in program history but she didn't have the minimum 12 attempts.

Emily Brewer '24 had 30 assists and Payton Lowrey '23 served three aces, giving her 196 for her career and just three shy of the school record. Lowrey also had 23 digs.

The first set was tied 18-all before Grinnell finished things off with a 7-0 run on the serve of Jenna Keller '24, who had an ace in that span. The second set was more of the same, tied at 15-apiece when Grinnell scored seven unanswered on the serve of Sophie Weber '25. She had an ace and Nicole Mlynski '26 a pair of kills.

Grinnell built an early lead in the final set and held on to secure the sweep. The Pioneers are back in action Friday and Saturday at the Washington University-St. Louis Tournament.
