Grinnell men's soccer team sees early lead slip away in loss to Ripon

RIPON, Wis. - Grinnell College's men's soccer team shot out to a 2-0 halftime lead at Ripon College Saturday, but the Red Hawks came back in the final stanza to secure a 3-2 victory.

Despite the decision, Grinnell (9-5-1) retains the top spot in the Midwest Conference standings with a 5-1-1 mark and 16 standings points. Ripon (8-5-3) remains tied with Lake Forest College in second place with records of 4-1-2 and 14 points.

Noah Guyton '23 notched his MWC-leading 11th goal of the season to open Saturday's scoring in the 16th minute. The goal was the 14th of Guyton's career.

Guyton's classmate, Matias Bambi '23, also got into the scoring act as he found the back of the net in the 27th minute. It was Bambi's second goal of the season and third in his career. Guyton provided the assist, his third of the season.

The score remained 2-0 before Ripon went on a blitz that included three goals in a 16-minute span in the second half to secure the win.

Grinnell had six shots in the game, with five on goal. Guyton had two of those shots and Bambi, Jaxon Willoughby '26, Nate Girard '23 and Owen Wilson '25 one apiece.

Pioneers' keeper Carter Benson '24 recorded four saves.

Grinnell steps out of league play Sunday to play Marian University in Fond du Lac, Wis. Kickoff is at noon.
