LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Grinnell College's volleyball team wrapped up regular-season play Saturday, falling in four sets at Lake Forest College.
The Foresters, who finished Midwest Conference competition at 7-1 while moving to 15-12 overall, came back from a 25-19 opening-set loss with wins of 27-25, 25-16 and 29-27.
Grinnell, 6-2 in the league and 17-10 overall, got 14 kills from
Hayley Taka '26 and 10 from
Malaina Miles '24.
Emily Brewer '24 added 35 assists and served two aces.
Payton Lowrey '23 led the way in digs with 33 and Brewer had 13.
Sophie Weber '25 and Lowrey sparked four-point runs with their serve to help Grinnell rally from an 11-9 deficit in the opening set to take a 17-12 lead. A Miles kill finished off the win.
The second set was back and forth, with
Kylie Snell '26 helping Grinnell stave off defeat with a kill that made it 25-all. However, Lake Forest got the next two points for the win.
After losing the third set, Grinnell got back into the swing and led the fourth 27-26 following
Ella O'Neill's '25 kill. But the Foresters ran off three points to secure the win.
The same teams will meet again Friday in the opening round of the MWC Tournament at Mount Vernon.
