Grinnell women's soccer team scores dramatic last-minute victory over Beloit

GRINNELL, Iowa – If a flair for the dramatic was what soccer fans wanted to see at the Springer Field pitch Saturday afternoon, they got it.

Tori Thomas' '25 goal in the final minute propelled the Pioneers to a thrilling 1-0 victory over Beloit College. The win kept Grinnell undefeated in Midwest Conference play while stretching its unbeaten streak to seven matches, the longest string since the 2011 season.

The teams played to a scoreless draw through 89 minutes before the Pioneers got down to business. Following a free kick by Beloit, Giada Bambi '25 took a pass on the right side from Jill Paladino '24. After Bambi battled a Beloit player for the ball, the Pioneer raced down the right side of the box and delivered a perfect ball into a charging Thomas. Thomas knocked it into the goal from right in front of the net for the game-winner, sending the Pioneers into celebration.

The goal was the second in both Thomas' season and career, while Bambi collected her team-high third assist.

Grinnell received yet another sterling effort by Elinor Arneson '23 in goal, as she earned her fourth shutout of the season while making four saves.

Grinnell won the shots battle 10-6, with Gia Sundaram '25, Jane March '24 and Bambi taking two apiece and Carlie Duus '24, Paladino, Thomas and Tali Berk '24 adding one each.

Grinnell, 3-0-1 in the MWC and 5-1-4 overall, hasn't lost a game since falling to Carleton College four weeks ago. Beloit dipped to 2-2 in the MWC and 4-2-2 in all games.

Grinnell, which has only lost once to Beloit in the 31-game series, takes to the road Wednesday to face Monmouth College in MWC play.
