GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's women's tennis team captured its 18
th Midwest Conference title Saturday by shutting out two foes at home.
Grinnell players earned shutouts in seven of nine divisions in a 9-0 victory over Monmouth College to open the day.
Irene Agusti '24 and
Sophia de los Reyes '23 combined for an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles, the same victorious score posted by the No. 2 tandem of
Utsah Kalra '25 and
Sydney Marin '25.
Ananya Manchanda '26 and
Anika Sheth '26 completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 decision at No. 3.
Grinnell got 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles by
Sabrina Tang '23 at No. 1,
Lily Perrin '25 at No. 2,
Tan Mukherjee '26 at No. 4,
Kalea Martin '25 at No. 5 and
Nichole Henning '26 at No. 6.
Nehir Ergun '26 completed the singles sweep, posting a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3.
The Pioneers, who are 6-0 in the MWC and 6-1 overall, completed then their unbeaten run through MWC regular-season play with a 9-0 win over Illinois College. Agusti and Giannakou won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, Perrin and Martin earned an 8-1 decision at No. 2 and Mukherjee teamed with
Josephine Blumenthal '23 to win 8-6 at No. 3.
Mira Manchanda '24, Kalra and Blumenthal all won 6-0, 6-0 decisions at Nos. 2, 4 and 6 singles, respectively. Tang won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1, de los Reyes claimed a 6-0, 6-2 decision at No. 3 and Marin won 6-1 6-1 at No. 5.
Tang now has 66 career singles wins, good for fifth in program history and 109 combined victories, which is ninth all-time.
Grinnell, which has won 15 of the last 18 MWC crowns, will compete in the league's four-team tourney next Friday followed by individual action the following two days. The winner of Friday's four-team tourney earns the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
