MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – Grinnell College wrapped up its 2022 football campaign on a blustery Saturday afternoon with a 45-6 setback at Cornell College.
Danny Quirk '25 rumbled for 149 rushing yards on the day for Grinnell, with a long of 32 yards.
Grinnell (2-6, 2-6 Midwest Conference), which trailed just 17-0 at halftime, got its score in the third quarter when
Grayson Woodhouse '24 found
Garrett Wilson '25 on a 15-yard touchdown strike with 3:52 to go. The drive saw a few big runs by Quirk and a 9-yard rush by
Ricky Morri '23 before the score on a 3
rd-and-10 play.
Cornell (3-7, 3-6 MWC) led 38-6 after three quarters en route to victory.
Besides Quirk's big rushing effort, Woodhouse completed five passes for 78 yards. Morri had one catch for 36 yards, Wilson added two snags for 23 yards and Quirk had two receptions for 19 yards.
Defensively,
Hugh Werner '25 secured nine tackles,
Breck Bishop '26 came up with seven and
Keaton Fitzgerald '26 and
Finn O'Malley '26 had four apiece.
Travis Chu '25 recorded a sack and tackle for loss, while Bishop also had a tackle for loss.
With several key contributors returning next season, the Pioneers will look for continued improvement in 2023.
