GRINNELL, Iowa – North Park University shot out to a quick lead and hung on from there for a 125-96 men's basketball victory over Grinnell College Saturday afternoon at Darby Gymnasium.
The Vikings (2-0) scored the game's first eight points before
Adam Phillips '23 connected on one of his six 3-pointers. The Pioneers crept within 10-7 on a layup by
Dillon Gestring '25, but North Park answered with an 11-3 run. The visitors led 74-48 at halftime and held a 52-47 scoring edge in the second half.
Grinnell (1-2) got 23 points from Phillips, 14 from
David Bluder '25, 13 from
Zach Rosen '26 and 10 by Gestring.
Tolu Johnson '25 cleared the boards for seven rebounds and also blocked three shots.
Nicholas Courtney '26 came up with three steals for Grinnell and Rosen added two. In the assists department, Rosen,
Tate McLean '23, Johnson,
Brady Vest '23 and
Alex Stein '25 had two apiece.
Grinnell has another tough non-conference game coming Tuesday when Wartburg College visits Darby Gymnasium. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
