Big innings send Centre past Grinnell baseball team

PENSACOLA, Fla. - A few big innings were the only difference as Centre College worked past the Grinnell College baseball team 11-1 Monday.
 
Centre, 9-10 on the season, scored four runs in the first inning, three in the fifth and four in the sixth.
 
The Pioneers were hurt by a tough fielding day, committing five errors. They managed four hits, including two by Nate L'Esperance '23. 
 
Grinnell, 2-4, got its run in the fifth inning when Cole Philpott '25 walked, took second on Matthew Inaba's '22 sacrifice and scored when Jonathan Gottlieb '22 delivered a single.
 
Pioneer starting pitcher Ian Feld '25 fanned three batters over five innings of work on the mound.
 
Grinnell is back at it again Tuesday against 14th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
