Grinnell men's tennis team finishes spring break trip with pair of narrow setbacks

ORLANDO, Fla. - Grinnell College finished off its spring break trip to Florida with a pair of narrow losses Friday.

 
The Pioneers lost a close 5-4 decision to Trinity College of Connecticut and then put up a great battle against 38th-ranked California Lutheran before losing 6-3.
 
Grinnell, 5-9 on the season, split singles matches against Trinity with wins by Bowen Mince '22 at No. 1 (5-0, retired), Karch Knoll '25 at No. 5 (6-3, 6-0) and Sam Rudenberg '25 at No. 6 (6-0, 6-3). Mince and Rudenberg also teamed up to take an 8-4 decision at the top doubles spot.
 
The Pioneers led Cal Lutheran 2-1 after doubles play, as Mince and Rudenberg won 8-4 at No. 1 and Knoll teamed with Leo Esztergomi '24 to post an 8-6 decision at No. 3. Rudenberg added a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles.
 
The Pioneers open Midwest Conference play next Saturday when Lake Forest College visits Grinnell.
