Grinnell men split singles matches in tennis setback at Coe

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Grinnell College's men's tennis team split singles matches against Coe College Saturday, but the Kohawks rode a sweep of doubles play to a 6-3 victory.

 
At Nos. 3 and 5 singles, Leo Esztergomi '24 and Sam Rudenberg '25 sailed to easy wins. Esztergomi posted a 6-1, 6-2 decision and Rudenberg added a 6-0, 6-1 victory. The Pioneers also got a marathon victory from Henry Bridgers '24 at No. 6. Bridgers won his opening set 7-6 (7-3), then lost 6-4 before bouncing back to win a 10-8 third-set thriller.
 
Two other Grinnell singles players also had hotly-contested matches, as Paul Elghouayel '24 lost a tight 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) decision at No. 2 and Karch Knoll '25 fell 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 4.
 
The 3-6 Pioneers are off until their spring break trip to Florida in two weeks.
