Grinnell tunes up for MWC Men's Tennis Tourney with impressive win over regionally-ranked UW-Eau Claire

GRINNELL, Iowa - The Grinnell College men's tennis team prepped for the upcoming Midwest Conference Tournament in impressive fashion Sunday, sailing past the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire 7-2 in a battle of regionally-ranked teams.
 
Bowen Mince '22, playing the final home match of an impressive collegiate career, again led the Central Region's 19th-ranked Pioneers with a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles and teaming with Sam Rudenberg '25 for an 8-4 win at the top doubles spot. Rudenberg was also a double winner at the Bear Center Field House, winning 7-5, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.
 
Leo Esztergomi '24 and Karch Knoll '25 were also two-time winners against UW-Eau Claire, the region's 12th-ranked team. They combined for an 8-7 victory at No. 3 doubles, while Esztergomi gutted out a 7-5, 4-6, 10-6 win at No. 2 singles and Knoll added a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 4.
 
The other win for the 12-11 Pioneers came from Henry Bridgers '24 at No. 6 singles. He posted a 7-5, 6-2 decision.
 
Grinnell will meet Cornell College in the MWC Team Tournament semifinals on Friday at Middleton, Wis.
