Academic All-District® Teams

GRINNELL, Iowa – Entering the 2022 campaign, Grinnell College's softball program had only two College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® selections in nearly 50 years.
 
That number grew to three today when Samantha Chu '24 was named to the NCAA Division III District 8 first team at an infield spot. The chemistry and computer science major is the first Pioneer to earn such an honor since Amanda Stromquist did so in 2011.
 
The Academic All-District® teams are selected by sports information directors from around the nation and Canada.
 
Chu, who plays primarily third base at Grinnell, proved to be among the nation's toughest players to strike out with just 4 Ks during the 2022 campaign. A two-time All-Midwest Conference selection, Chu hit .425 with four homers, 16 doubles, 38 RBIs and 30 runs scored.
 
Chu had a slugging percentage of .646 and on-base percentage of .467. She also recorded a .954 fielding percentage at the hot spot.
 
As an Academic All-District® first team, Chu advances to the Academic All-America® ballot.
