Chu, Ramirez, Anson, Durak named to All-MWC Softball Team; Grinnell coaches also named league's Staff of the Year

All-MWC Team

GRINNELL, Iowa - Four Grinnell College softball players have earned spots on the 2022 All-Midwest Conference Team.

 
Amanda Ramirez '23 and Samantha Chu '24 repeated as All-MWC selections, while Taylor Durak '24 and Kambria Anson '24 made the squad for the first time. 
 
Ramirez was named to the All-MWC first team at the shortstop position and Chu at third base. Durak and Anson were second-teamers, Durak in the outfield and Anson at an at-large spot.
 
CoachesAdditionally, Grinnell's coaches (inset) won the MWC Coaching Staff of the Year honor. That group, led by first-year head coach Lexy Determan, also includes assistants Dalton Meredith and Dana Harrold.

Ramirez led the MWC in league play with four triples, was third in runs scored with 23 and ranked fourth in slugging percentage and OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage) with marks of .764 and 1.302, respectively. Additionally, she was fifth in batting average (.509) and sixth in on-base percentage (.538) to go along with 14 RBIs and six doubles.

 
Chu proved to be one of the nation's toughest players to strike out with just two Ks overall and none in league play. She ranked fourth in the league in doubles with eight and RBIs with 22, was fifth in slugging percentage at .724 and sixth in OPS (1.255), batting average (.483), home runs (two) and runs scored (19). Her on-base percentage of .531 was seventh.
 
Durak was second in the MWC in doubles with nine, sixth in homers with two and RBIs with 19 and 10th in OPS (1.144) and slugging percentage (.700). Additionally, she hit .400, scored seven runs and had an on-base percentage of .444.
 
Anson's quickness was on display with eight stolen bases in league play on eight tries. That ranked third in the league. She hit .404 with 17 runs scored, a .468 slugging percentage and .429 on-base percentage.
 
MWC regular-season champion Lake Forest College won all three individual honors, as Hannah Smith was named Pitcher and Newcomer of the Year and Josie Klein the Position Player of the Year. Cornell College captured the Sportsmanship Award.
