Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Ted Schultz

GC women's soccer team makes huge strides in season-opening draw with Dubuque

GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College's women's soccer team celebrated a huge leap in the matter of one week from its preseason scrimmage to season opener against the University of Dubuque on Thursday afternoon.

Featuring some stingy defense and solid team play, the Pioneers battled the University of Dubuque from the American Rivers Conference to a 0-0 draw at Springer Field. The tie snapped a six-game losing streak Grinnell had against Dubuque, dating back to 2009.

Both teams featured scoring chances, but the defenses made those few and far between.

Grinnell's shot total was spread out, with one apiece from Jane March '23, Jill Paladino '23, Giada Bambi '24, Tali Berk '23 and Allison Wehrman '24.

The Pioneers got a stellar effort from rookie keeper Valeriya Woodard '25, making her first collegiate soccer appearance. She faced 11 shots and made four saves without the Spartans cracking the net.

Grinnell faces another American Rivers Conference foe Saturday when Coe College visits Springer Field for a 2:30 p.m. date.
