GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's women's soccer team tuned up for Sunday's contest at Buena Vista University by battling a rugged Nebraska Wesleyan University team to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon.
Grinnell (1-1-2) struck first at Springer Field, as
Carlie Duus '24 found the back of the net in the 20
th minute for her first goal of the season and second of her career.
Giada Bambi '25 had the assist.
On the play, Bambi stole the ball from an opponent near midfield and raced down the middle of the pitch. She faked out a defender and delivered a perfect pass to the right to a charging Duus, who fired from 10 yards out and into the upper middle part of the net.
Nebraska Wesleyan (4-1-1) scored 19 minutes later to make it 1-all at halftime. The teams played to a scoreless stalemate the rest of the way.
Grinnell won the shots battle 19-11, with Bambi taking five shots, including two on goal, and
Keiko Smith '25 four shots, also with two on goal.
Ramona Delborne '26 added three shots with one on goal. Others with shots on goal were
Beya VanRheenan '26, Duus and
Tali Berk '24.

Elinor Arneson '23 had a big game in net for Grinnell with two saves.
The contest against Buena Vista in Storm Lake begins at 1:30 p.m.
