Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Ted Schultz

Defense is name of the game again in GC women's soccer victory

STORM LAKE, Iowa - As has been most of the season, defense was the name of the game for the Grinnell College women's soccer team Sunday.

The Pioneers posted their third shutout in five outings this year, blanking Buena Vista University 2-0 in a non-conference outing.

Grinnell (2-1-2) limited the Beavers to just two shots while taking a season-high 23 itself. The goal total was also a season-best for the Pioneers.

Elinor Arneson '23 came up with another impressive outing at keeper, making one save while posting her first shutout of the season.

The win was Grinnell's eighth in a row against Buena Vista (3-4) dating back to 2012.

Antarah Chopra '23 tallied the first goal of her Pioneer career to open the scoring in the 16th minute on an assist from Tali Berk '24

Carlie Duus '24 added to that cushion in the 39th minute, scoring for the second time this season and third time in her career on an assist from Gia Sundaram '25.

Duus had five of Grinnell's shots, Jill Paladino '23 and Ramona Delborne '26 added four each and Berk and Reese Komsthoeft '25 had two each.

Grinnell opens Midwest Conference play at Illinois College in Jacksonville, Ill., at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
