Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Ted Schultz

Unbeaten Dubuque pulls away in late going to top GC men's soccer team

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Through 58 minutes, Grinnell College's men's soccer team played unbeaten University of Dubuque to a scoreless draw in a physical battle.

However, the hosts struck for two goals in a 13-minute span to pull away for a 3-1 non-conference victory Wednesday.

Despite the low scoring count early, the shots were flowing as the Pioneers outshot Dubuque 8-4 in the first half. The Spartans won the overall battle in that department 15-14.

Grinnell's goal came in the 73rd minute by Noah Guyton '23, his third of the season. On the play, Dylan Maddux '24 lifted a corner kick from the right side to in front of the left portion of the net. Guyton approached from the left and, just a few yards in front of the net, headed the ball into the bottom part of it for a goal. It was Guyton's sixth career goal.

Dubuque (3-0-1) got an insurance goal eight minutes later to secure the victory.

Guyton had five of Grinnell's 14 shots, Jaxon Willoughby '26 added three and Ryan Huang '26 a pair. The Pioneers had five shots on goal, two by Guyton and Willoughby and one from Jimmy Miseda '26.

Carter Benson '24 had two saves as the keeper for Grinnell (1-2).

Grinnell returns to Springer Field Saturday for a battle against another American Rivers Conference foe Central College. Kickoff is at 1:30 p.m.
