GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's men's soccer team scored early to take command, and then scored late to secure the victory in Saturday's 3-0 non-conference decision against Augustana College.
Samuel Gojjam '27 scored just five minutes into the contest at Springer Field to give the Pioneers a lead they would never relinquish. It was Gojjam's team-high third goal of the season.
An own goal with less than eight minutes to go pushed the margin to 2-0, and
Anthony Hong '27 pushed a goal into the net in the final minute to account for the final score.
Dylan Maddux '25 assisted the last goal, his team-high third assist, while Hong tallied his second goal of the year.
Carter Benson '24 and
Jayson Kunkel '26 weaved the shutout at keeper, with each player working 45 minutes and making two saves apiece.
Grinnell, which saw 24 players get time on the pitch, won the shots battle 9-8 with Hong, Gojjam and
Demi Oni '27 taking two apiece and
Billy Cherress '26,
Peter Murphy '25 and
Owen Wilson '25 getting one each.
Grinnell improved to 5-4-4 overall and Augustana dipped to 0-11-2. The Pioneers entertain Buena Vista University on Sunday, starting at noon.
