Grinnell stretches winning streak to 3 with easy victory over Buena Vista

GRINNELL, Iowa - The most offensively-productive match of the season for the Grinnell College men's soccer team resulted in the third victory in a row for the Pioneers Sunday afternoon at Springer Field.

The Pioneers established season-highs for goals, assists, points and shots on goal on their way to a 5-1 victory over Buena Vista University. The win was Grinnell's 11th in a row over the Beavers dating back to 2008.

Dylan Maddux '25 and Jimmy Miseda '26 each scored two goals while sending Grinnell to 5-4-4 on the season. The Pioneers bolted to a 5-0 halftime lead, holding a 15-1 edge in shots in that span. Five goals in one half ranks ninth in program history.

Grinnell finished with 21 shots, including 14 on goal. The shots on goal total is the highest for the Pioneers since 2021. Grinnell finished the game with three assists to go along with the five goals, giving the Pioneers 13 total points for the game.

Jefferson Kolmer '24 made the most of his first start of the season at keeper.

Maddux scored just five minutes into the contest on an assist from Oliver Northing '25. Two minutes later, Northing got into the scoring act and just like that it was 2-0.

Maddux added his second goal of the match in the 15th minute, boosting his team-high total to three to match Northing and two others.

Miseda found the back of the net in the 21st minute and added another goal 19 minutes later to make it 5-0. Billy Cherres '26 assisted the first goal and Soma Suzuki '25 the second.

Miseda led the Pioneers with five shots, Samuel Gojjam '27 added three shots and Maddux, Northing, Moise Milenge '26, Nick Fahmy '26 and Suzuki each had two shots.

The lone goal of the game for Buena Vista, which fell to 1-11-2 on the season, was a second-half penalty kick.

Grinnell heads to Mount Vernon Tuesday for a key Midwest Conference match against Cornell College. Action is at 4 p.m.
