GC women's soccer team posts impressive win over strong Augustana team

GRINNELL, Iowa - Facing a huge challenge in the form of Augustana College, the Grinnell College women's soccer team delivered.

A goal late in the first half held up as the Pioneers notched their first win over the Vikings since 2003 in a 1-0 decision Saturday at Springer Field.

Augustana came into the contest with just one loss, but the hosts weren't fazed in the slightest. The victory extended a streak in which Grinnell remained with just one setback in the last month.

Allison Wehrman '24 recorded a goal in the 43rd minute for her first score of the season and third in her career.

In the meantime, Peyton Dixon '27 recorded her eighth shutout of the season as Grinnell's keeper. That mark matches the seventh-highest total in program history.

The Pioneers (6-3-3) owned the shots battle 11-7, with Reese Komsthoeft '25, Wehrman and Rama Joshi '27 taking two shots each and Tessa Leahy '25, Jane March '24, Ramona Delborne '26, Meilynn Smith '27 and Giada Bambi '25 firing off one each.

Dixon recorded four saves and Grinnell held a 7-2 edge in corner kicks against the Vikings (10-2-3).

Grinnell has another home contest Sunday when Buena Vista University comes to town for a 2:30 p.m. showdown.
