GC women's soccer team celebrates Senior Day with 7-0 victory

GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College's women's soccer team made the most of Senior Day Sunday afternoon, blanking Buena Vista University 7-0 at Springer Field.

Grinnell's goal total is its highest since 2021, as were the 15 overall points. The Pioneers had a season-high 17 shots on goal as well as 39 shots, its highest total since 2019.

The Pioneers led 1-0 at halftime before erupting for six goals in the second half, the eighth-most goals in a half in program history.

Grinnell, which has lost just once in the last month, earned its ninth shutout of the season. That figure ranks ninth in program history. Peyton Dixon '27 has been in goal for all that time.

Grinnell got its first score in the 30th minute on an own goal. Ramona Delborne '26 scored her third goal of the season in the 54th minute and Katie Carson '25 got a goal in the 70th minute to make it 3-0. Carson has two scores this season.

Then came a flurry of goals, four in a 10-minute span to be exact. Carlie Duus '24 scored the first of those, in the 78th minute, and got another a minute later on an assist by Jane March '24. Duus now has two goals on the season.

March added her team-high fifth goal in the 87th minute and Tali Berk '24 scored a minute later, her fourth tally of the season.

Of Grinnell's 39 shots, Delborne had seven and Allison Wehrman '24, March and Berk fired five apiece. Amelia Dueñas '26 contributed three and Duus, Reese Komsthoeft '25, Giada Bambi '25, Beya VanRheenen '26 and Gia Sundaram '25 tallied two each.

Grinnell improved to 6-3-3 overall and Buena Vista fell to 3-10.

Grinnell heads to Mount Vernon Wednesday for a key Midwest Conference match against Cornell College.
