Pioneer volleyball team falls in 3 to strong Nebraska Wesleyan squad

LINCOLN, Neb. - Stepping out of Midwest Conference play Monday, Grinnell College dropped a tight three-set match to Nebraska Wesleyan in volleyball action.

The Prairie Wolves, who improved to 15-6, won by scores of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-19.

Sophie Weber '25 had 22 digs for Grinnell and Jenna Keller '24 contributed 12. Emily Brewer '24 added 20 assists and Keller came up with seven kills.

The first set was tied at 9-all on Kylie Snell's '27 kill before the hosts opened things up with a seven-point run. The second stanza was almost identical, with a block by Millie Leonard '27 and Keller giving the Pioneers a 7-6 lead. Nebraska Wesleyan followed with a six-point run and never looked back.

Grinnell was within 12-11 in the third set following a ball handling error by the Prairie Wolves, and later trailed just 21-18 after a kill by Hayley Taka '27. However, the hosts scored four of the next five points to secure the win.

Emmy Nyquist '24 moved up to eighth on Grinnell's all-time matches played chart with at 114, tying Elizabeth Davis who played from 2007-10.

The Pioneers, who are 10-13, play Simpson College Thursday at Indianola.
