GC women's soccer team records 3rd consecutive shutout in MWC play

GRINNELL, Iowa - It was a triple crown of sorts for the Grinnell College women's soccer team Saturday at Springer Field.

For the third match in a row, the Pioneers shut out a Midwest Conference opponent while improving to 3-0-1 in league play and 5-2-3 overall. It was the seventh shutout of the season for Grinnell, with Peyton Dixon '27 in goal for every one.

Offensively, Tali Berk '24 recorded a pair of goals and Jane March '24 and Ramona Delborne '26 had one each as Grinnell stretched its winning streak against the Lady Blues to six matches.

Grinnell recorded a season-high 32 shots while limiting Illinois College to just three.

The contest was scoreless at halftime, but Grinnell went ahead to stay just three minutes into the second half on March's team-high fourth goal of the season. On the play, March beat her opponent for a ball in the right side of the box and delivered a perfect shot to the far post. It was the 11th goal in her career.

Berk added goals in the 57th minute and then eight minutes later to put Grinnell ahead 3-0. On the first of those, Maddie Beltramo '25 delivered a beautiful cross from the right side into the box that Berk collected and drilled into the net from close range. It was Beltramo's first assist of the season.

The second goal Berk scored came when she controlled the ball after a shot off the crossbar and sent into the goal. It was Berk's sixth career goal.

Delborne scored her second goal of the season and third in her career in the 77th minute. Kate Nakamura '26 ran the ball down near the end line near the right side of the box. She sent a cross into Delborne, who beat the keeper to the ball and tapped it into the net. It was Nakamura's first assist of the year.

Delborne had seven shots for Grinnell, Berk and Katie Carson '25 added four each and Sarah Travis '27 and Rama Joshi '27 delivered three each. Dixon recorded two saves at the keeper spot.

With the loss, Illinois College fell to 0-1-2 in the MWC and 3-6-2 overall.

Grinnell steps out of league play Sunday when Saint Mary's University of Minnesota visits Springer Field for a 3 p.m. test.
