Grinnell drops narrow decision to Saint Mary's in evenly-matched women's soccer battle

GRINNELL, Iowa - In an evenly-matched women's soccer battle, a goal in the 33rd minute is all that stood between Grinnell College and Saint Mary's University of Minnesota in the latter's 1-0 victory Sunday at Springer Field.

Playing in virtually perfect autumn weather, Grinnell won the shots battle 13-12 and was on the offensive much of the second half while trying to tie the contest. Reese Komsthoeft '25 nearly did that single-handedly, firing a perfect free kick from just beyond the box that lined off the crossbar, straight down and narrowly missed going into the goal for a score.

Tali Berk '24 had three of the Pioneers' shots, while Maddie Beltramo '25, Komsthoeft, Allison Wehrman '24 and Katie Carson '25 added two each.

Keeper Peyton Dixon '27 recorded six saves as Grinnell moved to 5-3-3. Saint Mary's improved to 7-5-1.

Grinnell has two more non-conference contests next weekend, beginning with a meeting against Augustana College on Saturday.
