Pioneer Classic Information
GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College will welcome five other schools to the Russell K. Osgood Pool this weekend for the 13
th annual Pioneer Classic swimming and diving event.
Joining the Pioneers at the meet will be Gustavus Adolphus College, Simpson College, Lawrence University, the University of Nebraska-Kearney and divers from Washington University in St. Louis.
The meet continues to get more competitive and stronger as the years go on, something displayed by the fact that five meet records were broken last year in the men's competition and two were set on the women's side.
Gustavus Adolphus is the defending team champ in both the women's and men's divisions. The Gusties edged the hosts 947-936 for the 2022 men's title, while Gustavus Adolphus beat runner-up Carleton College 982-673 for last year's women's crown. Grinnell placed third on the women's side last year with 662.
All sessions will be finals, with action beginning Friday at 5:30 p.m. with the 200-yard freestyle relay. The meet continues at 9 a.m. Saturday with the 200 medley relay, with the third session consisting of the 1650 freestyle and 1-meter diving set for a 2 p.m. start. The fourth and final session begins at 5 p.m. with the 100 individual medley.
