Athletic Alma squad snaps Grinnell men's basketball team's 8-game winning streak

GRINNELL, Iowa - Alma College grabbed a 51-49 halftime lead on its way to topping Grinnell College's men's basketball team 116-102 Saturday afternoon at Darby Gymnasium.

The Scots, who grabbed 25 offensive rebounds and scored 34 second-chance points, snapped Grinnell's eight-game winning streak while improving to 4-4. The Pioneers, who shot a season-low 20.5 percent from 3-point range, fell to 8-2.

Kai Te Huki '27 and Gabe Garcia '27 were Grinnell's top scorers with 34 and 23 points, respectively. Jordan Lee '27 was also in double digits with 13.

Dillon Gestring '25 added five rebounds, Te Huki dished out three assists and Zach Rosen '26, Garcia and Nick Courtney '26 had three steals apiece.

The lead changed hands a few times in the first half, with Grinnell building a 38-35 cushion on Garcia's jumper in the paint with 5:15 left. However, the Scots rallied and took a two-point lead into the locker room.

The Pioneers drew even twice in the second half, the last time at 59-all on Te Huki's layup. Alma answered every Grinnell charge after that on its way to victory.

Grinnell is off until Dec. 30 when it plays against Blackburn College in Carlinville, Ill.
