GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's
Sam Heller '23 and
Ben Johnson '23 capped spectacular campaigns with the Pioneer men's swimming and diving squad by earning a spot on the
NCAA Division III Academic All-District® Team.
The Academic All-District® Team, selected by College Sports Communicators including Grinnell Sports Information Director Ted Schultz, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in March.
Heller is an economics major from Grey Eagle, Minn., while Johnson is a biology major from Rochester, Minn.
Heller claimed two Midwest Conference titles in his career, winning top honors in this year's 1-meter event and taking the 3-meter crown in 2020. He entered the all-time leaders list for Grinnell in both events this season.
Johnson was the MWC champ in the 200-yard breaststroke and 400 individual medley at this year's league meet. He is third on Grinnell's all-time leader board in the 200 breaststroke and 200 individual medley and fourth in the 400 individual medley. Johnson is also eighth in the 1000 and 1650 freestyles and 16
th in the 200 butterfly.
